To that end, Jill can reduce stress by providing expertise, an unbiased perspective, and guidance throughout the entire college admissions process. Your investment in Head to College will ensure your tuition investment is a wise one.
How do I find the right college?
Choosing a college is a very personal choice, and one that will ultimately be yours. However, Jill will get to know you personally, as well as your interests, abilities and goals. From there she will work to find colleges that provide the best fit for you, weighing factors such as academics, environment, and affordability.
Wouldn’t I receive the same help from my high school counselor?
High school counselors do an amazing job but they have hundreds of students to work with. They simply do not have the time to work individually with each student. Jill will spend hours getting to know you and providing personalized advice and assistance so you can find the college that’s the right match for you.
What are colleges looking for in students?
Grades and test scores play a part but colleges also want students who will contribute to life on their campus. They are looking for interesting individuals who are engaged in their community and show characteristics such as leadership, initiative and the willingness to take risks. Jill will guide you on high school courses to take, as well as on activities and community service opportunities that will prepare you for college and help you discover the unique person that you are.
I hear colleges are very competitive these days. How do I stand out from the competition?
Jill will help you create a compelling application packet that highlights your strengths and accomplishments, and expresses who you are in a confident and authentic way. It’s not about “marketing” you; it’s about putting together an application that truly reflects who you are.
Are parents involved in the process?
Families are encouraged to participate in the process as much or as little as they would like. Family members can provide valuable information, perspective and encouragement along the way; however, if you’d prefer to cheer from the sidelines, that’s fine too!
When should I start?
Most students begin the college search process junior year, however some students start as early as freshman or sophomore year so they have guidance every step of the way. Even if you are a senior, you’ll be glad to know it’s not too late! Jill will give you the support and guidance you need wherever you are in the process.
